Christmas is approaching fast, a time to celebrate with family and friends,and realise just how lucky we are.

It is also a time to reflect on others less fortunate and ask how we can make a difference.

Here is a wonderful story of how Green Gecko has made a difference in the life of a young lady called Srey Neang, 

 “Then and Now!” By Srey Neang

I didn't know English before, but now I can read and write some English. Before, we were begging and some of us were also scavenging rubbish to earn our living. Only some kids went to school, but most didn't because they had to earn to money to feed their family.

While I was begging, I always hoped that there would be a tourist helping me to study. I didn't know English then and I wanted to study English so much. After six years of begging, I was helped by a tourist and a Khmer to study. They helped my family and other kids' families so that we can get out of hunger. They are Tania and Rem.

They rent house for us to sleep and study. Since then, we are able to study Khmer and English as others do. When I grow up, I want to have a job which I can help my family and other kids who need help. I will study hard to finish the study soon for the Green Gecko and so that my helpers are happy. I will show my gratitude towards Tania and Rem by studying hard and being a good kid of the Green Gecko.
