Life & Hope
(LHA)

|
LHA is a non profit, non government and non political organisation. It was founded in 2005 by the monks of Watt Damnak and friends.
The Sustainable Community Project, formerly named "Food for Education
project", began in 2005 and was the first initiative of LHA. The project is now expanding and will include agricultural training for the families so they can grow vegetables around their homes, and a Sewing/Craft shelter where the women of the Commune can learn sewing, weaving and other skills. This will enable them to make and repair clothes, and create a cottage industry. RFC fund these initiatives and the shelter will be built with the assistance of the Rotary Club of Kerang Victoria. |

Despite the clear
benefits of education, young girls lag far behind boys in terms of their
participation in Cambodia's education system, particularly at the upper
levels. In 1998, it was reported that only two out of three females (66%)
between 15- and 24-years-old could demonstrate basic literacy. This compares
with an 83 percent literacy rate among males in the same age group.
Similarly, girls are far less likely to make the transition from primary to
junior high school than boys, and dropout rates are significantly higher.
